Since her beginnings as a waitress in a cabaret hotel, songwriter-singer Charlotte Marshall has been influenced by the troubadours who passed through her early musical career. Charlotte grew up sifting through her parent’s LPs, working her way slowly outwards from an inherent love of the blues, and gradually building what has become the steadfast soundtrack to her life as an independent musician.
She studied piano at an early age, but after a long line of musical instruments and styles, Charlotte travelled to the Northern Rivers, and began her vocal career as a busking musician performing nights on the colourful streets of Byron Bay and succumbing to the temptations of funk, blues, jazz, soul and R&B. She began to write songs with a distinctive flavour that speak of life and love, and her enthusiastic energy and spontaneity fused in an explosion of modern sound.
She began teaching locally and singing in studio sessions to support herself through a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at Southern Cross University, but her irresistible stage energy took her to bigger things; writing, arranging and performing with various line-ups at a long line of prestigious venues and festivals to audiences throughout the Northern Rivers and along the East Coast.
Her beloved influences are too many and varied to list, yet they show from time to time between the lines of her very own red-hot brand of funk-soul-blues. Now appearing with her sizzling groove band and combining contagious hooks and inspired melodies, Charlotte Marshall is set to make an indelible mark on the Australian blues and roots scene with her fusion of retro and cutting edge.
